This is a list of repair services for the Sega Game Gear handheld. Cost includes labor and parts, but not shipping. Shipping is calculated at checkout.
Full Recap- Electrolytic capacitors only have an expected lifetime of 15-20 years, and the Game Gear is far in excess of that. The Game Gear and Sega’s other peripherals are notorious for their faulty capacitors. Replacing the capacitors can fix numerous issues, including no power, no video, video issues, low speaker volume, crackling, and more. This service replaces all capacitors on the main, power & sound board. We recommend that all Game Gear systems, even fully functional ones, be recapped as preventative maintenance.
Backlit LCD Screen Mod & Glass Cover- This service replaces the old game gear screen and incandescent backlight bulb with a modern hispeedido LCD backlit screen. The screen features touch controls to change between 8 color modes, scan line effect, and 3 aspect ratios & adjustable brightness via the thumbwheel.
USB-C Rechargeable Battery Mod- This service installs RetroSix CleanJuice’s dual rechargeable battery packs into the AA battery sockets. These batteries boast 22.2 watt hours of power to give you upwards of 13 hours of game time & can be charged any time by any USB-C cable.
Retrosticks Thumbstick Mod- This mod brings a modern thumbstick feel to your dated directional pad. This module from RetroSix takes a true analogue thumbstick and converts it into a digital one with almost no lag!
Deep Cleaning- This service involves a complete disassembly of your system, casing & buttons cleaned in a ultrasonic bath & all PCBs & sockets hand cleaned with 99% isopropyl alcohol.
